How do we identify and build the sustainable living movement?
The Sustainable Lifestyles and Education (SLE) Contributor Cohort brings together outstanding individuals from around the world to further SLE research, networks and initiatives. It consists of
a group of amazing young professionals and students from around the world.
The purpose of the Cohort is to equip these young leaders with opportunities to connect with each other, network with leaders in the field, build capacity, and find and create inspiring projects and events.

The SLE Cohort is part of the One Planet Network’s Sustainable Lifestyles and Education Programme. OneEarth Living is a member of the Cohort coordinating team, which also includes Dwayne Appleby (from the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies), Aina Eriksson, Ebba Eriksson, and Carolina Yang (all from the Stockholm Environment Institute) and Laura Astudillo Mesías (from the United Nations Environment Programme).
During 2021-2022, the Cohort’s focus was to:

Report to the One Planet Network, United Nations and national governments on SLE activities in collaboration with the SLE Multi-Stakeholder Advisory Committee to further our collective understanding of SLE initiatives taking place internationally.

Manuel Alejandro Abreu Medina
I am Manuel Abreu Medina, a Venezuelan, currently living in Madrid. I am a Chemical Engineer with an MBA and a Master’s Degree in Food S&T. As a professional I have always been linked to industry and research, applying my technical knowledge to improve processes and products while at the same time reducing the impact on nature. Since childhood I was a volunteer at Scouts of Venezuela Association (SVA) for 15 years, there I learned to love nature and maintain a sustainable lifestyle, also as an adult Scout I was in charge of some environmental education activities and was in charge of the biggest communication program of SVA, then I participated as SCP FP for the Science-Policy Interface of UN-MGCY for two years, and as SCP Regional Focal Point for LAC of UN-MGCY for two more years, where I learned a lot about the visions of youth and children in the region.

I am currently pursuing a Masters degree in Humanitarian Engineering with Sustainability at the University of Warwick in the UK. I love expressing myself through creative mediums, be it calligraphy, mixed media painting, decoupage or learning new languages. I speak Hindi, Sindhi, Arabic and French, and look forward to learning a lot more!
I truly believe in the power of conscious design to solve the challenges of the 21st century, by bringing to the forefront a well-being economy that allows both people and planet to thrive, thereby promoting abundance and prosperity for all.

Sithmi Attanayake
I am currently pursuing a BA(hons) in Sociology (UG) at the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka, and am also pursuing a National Diploma in Human Resource Management & ICT at Sri Lanka Foundation Institute.
I co-founded Gender Scholars Forum SL in June 2021, which works for Gender Equality and Mainstreaming Gender in different academic Disciplines. Recently, I conducted a project on developing a blog – “Gender Study resources Hub” which includes resources related to Gender studies.
Further, I worked as a Project Coordinator for the Centre for equality and Justice, Sri Lanka and as an assistant project coordinator for Youth Advocacy Network Sri Lanka. I volunteer and engage in social service, community development, SDGs, social welfare, awareness raising projects, and professional development projects, etc. Also, I am volunteering as the batch representative for the Sociology Association, the Rotaract club of University of Peradeniya, and as a UN volunteer in Sri Lanka (V- Force). I am very much interested in working towards the SDGs and am keen to learn more.

Jin Wei Louis Chan
Louis has held various leadership portfolios, across various functions. Notably these include being the President of the NUS Pharmaceutical Society and Chairperson of the NUS Students’ Unions International Student Relations Committee. He is also currently the International Society of Pharmaceutical Engineering Singapore Affiliate Students’ Chapter. In his leadership roles, he has championed innovation and constantly brought forth and implement new ideas to ensure the societies have remained relevant for their members.
For Sustainability, Louis is passionate about sustainable finance and how sustainability does not have to mean less profits for businesses. He is passionate about encouraging and working together with businesses to have a focus on sustainability.
In his free time, Louis enjoys going to the gym, Muay thai (a form of martial arts), and cafe-hopping.

Dingha Chrispo Babila
Dingha Chrispo Babila is a PhD research fellow in Geography and Planning at the University of Bamenda Cameroon. He is the Delegate for Community and Livelihood Sustainability Common Initiative Group (COLISCIG) since 2019.
Dingha has researched and communicated the need for wise use of wetlands earning the Idea Wild equipment grant in September 2020.
He aspires to continue with his research career in environmental dynamics, and contribute to addressing global environmental and societal issues. As well as engage communities and raise awareness about the need for environmental stewardship, sustainable exploration and consumption.
Dingha’s keys goals are to strengthen his capacity in environmental research through the use of geospatial data and GIS and to raise awareness about sustainable actions.
He holds a Masters and Bachelor of Science degrees in Geography and Planning from the University of Bamenda.

Maggie Fechtman
My name is Maggie Fechtman and I am currently an undergraduate student at Penn State University, studying Community, Environment, and Development (CED) with a focus in International Development and a minor in International Agriculture. I am very passionate about working to resolve global inequalities through sustainable development.
Outside of academics, I am a collegiate contemporary dancer. I love travelling and will be in Europe, January 2022 – May 2022, to study abroad.
I look forward to being a member of this cohort, learning more about SLE, and contributing to the progress of sustainability.

Durodoluwa Femi-Ajala
Durodoluwa Femi-Ajala is the creative director of “dgreenadvocate” a creative outlet focused on creating sustainable environments within her community. She believes that a change in mindset will lead to a change in the behavioural patterns of people, leading to a changing world, which is why she focuses on educating people. She is likewise a co-founder of the Youth Sustainable Development Network (YSDN) an organization that believes changing the lives and mindsets of youths, leads to a changing narrative. The team of YSDN does this by ensuring that small scale and start-up initiatives become sustainable and financially viable in the long term, understanding that many initiatives fail within the first five years. Furthermore, the most viable of initiatives are sponsored to implement their desired projects.
Durodoluwa believes that no matter how little an effort seems, it can change the life of a person. This has become her impetus in doing what she does. She also loves fictional books and those that speak to the realities of life. She has a background in law.

Maya Gryesten Fields
Maya presently works as ‘Science Education Officer’ with the National Trust of Ireland after spending a year working in Brussels as a trainee sustainability consultant. As Science Education Officer Maya works with schools in Ireland to build capacity in environmental sciences with a focus on climate action. Maya holds a Masters in Environmental Management and Policy from Lunds University and a Bachelor in Geography and Sociology from Trinity College Dublin. Throughout her education and internships Maya has gathered expertise in the area of education for sustainable development and urban resilience through work with the Foundation for Environmental Education, Low Carbon City (Ciudad Baja en Carbono), C40 Cities, and the European Commission. Maya has additionally been leading community outreach projects with asylum seekers and at-risk children and youth in a voluntary capacity for over 6 years.
Maya enjoys working in multi-cultural environments, and is a dual-citizen of Denmark and the USA. She has lived and worked across 4 continents and 8 countries.

Fernanda Lucia Galvez Aranda
I have a Bachelor of Environmental Engineering degree from UNALM specializing in Climate Change and I am a climate activist. I am the Executive Director and Co-founder of Estación CLIMA (The Climate Station) youth organization that, understanding the importance of having a science-public policy interface on climate change, integrates research, participation and advocacy in spaces of governance, climate education and community projects to contribute to the transition to a just and sustainable social system. I am the creator of Painot (an Instagram Project on Climate Education), co-organizer of LCOY-Peru 2021, former Vice President of the Climate Change Research Circle, and am trained in citizen governance. I am also a Mentee of the WWF International We Got This Program, and a speaker at the Global Landscape Forum Climate Conference and Climate Leader of The Climate Reality Project.
I am an empathetic, outgoing and enthusiastic person who likes to work for noble and just causes.

Michelle García
I’m Michelle García, from Portoviejo City, in Ecuador. I´m in my mid twenties. I love music, reading and camping. I have a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering and I have a master’s in Integrated Management systems. I’m a climate reality leader. I like to clean waste on beaches like microplastics in Crucita and Puerto López Beach. But, I realized that I can help more if I work in industries and collaborate with environmental management.
During the pandemic, I learned about a plant-based diet, and composting from organic waste with a Californian red worm. Also, my father and I started to build a vegetable patch. We have planted tomato, cucumber, lettuce, broad bean, watermelon, papaya, radish, banana, pepper, and basil.
Then, I got a job in a hospital in another city. I work towards implementing solutions for decarbonization of healthcare.
I like everything about renewable energies in rural communities, like using anaerobic Digestion of Food Waste.

Abenathi Mantshiyose
I am Abenathi Mantshiyose, I was born in the late 1990’s. I live in Willowvale, a small town located in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa.
I completed my high school at St Christopher’s Private School, and later on I furthered my tertiary studies at Rhodes University. I completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science and Geography in 2019, and in 2020 I completed my Honours degree in Environmental Science. I am currently doing my Masters at the University of Cape Town under the Environmental and Geographical Science department.
I have been involved in different research projects over the years. In 2020 I conducted research on the adaptation strategies of smallholder farmers to drought in Southern Africa. Currently I am completing a Masters research project that is focused on investigating the weather and climate information needs of smallholder farmers towards better communication of climate information in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa.

-Dinis S. Messele is a registered nurse by profession from Angola and a 2021 Mandela Washington fellowship Alumni in the Leadership in Public Management track. He is a community health advocate, educator, and a youth mentor. His passion is holistic community health and education which is greatly influenced by the environment. He believes a healthy environment keeps people healthy.
He mobilizes and leads a multi-disciplinary group of health professionals to provide free basic healthcare and medication to disadvantaged communities with no or little access to healthcare facilities.
He educates and mentors adolescents and young people in his community on spiritual, mental and physical well-being/health, care for the environment, discovering and enhancing individual personal gifts and potential.
He has a passion for continuous learning and self improving in order to serve his community and humanity better. He is fluent in English and Portuguese, and speaks basic French.

Dylan Naidoo
Dylan holds an undergraduate degree in Resource and Environmental Management, and a certificate in data analytics and visualization. He is passionate about ESG principles and how they can be applied to corporate social responsibility/investment and corporate sustainability. Currently, he is a Fellow at the MovingWorlds Institute where he explores using human-centred design to better social enterprise, business, and impact reporting.
He believes that the power of education can help push individuals and companies to be more sustainable.
Having grown up between South Africa and Canada, Dylan brings a unique lived experience understanding issues in the developed and developing world. This global mindset, along with his environmental background, allows him to understand how the developed world can help the developing world.
Living in Vancouver, Canada, Dylan likes to cook, fish, and live off the land where possible. He also is a huge soccer fan and art nerd.

Sutirtha is from India. She has completed her Masters in Zoology from the University of
Calcutta with a specialization in Biodiversity & Ecosystem Function. Sutirtha is an advocate at heart,
especially when it comes to the environmental injustices in this vast world of greys we live in.
Communicating climate change through tech and culture, she hopes to help build momentum for the climate movement in the world.
Sutirtha believes, “We are all extinction rebellions doing our bit to leave the Mother Earth as a legacy
for our future generations.” Her love for life lies in drawing connections from our everyday lives to the environment we live in so that we can all push for a planet-friendly future together. She believes we are living in one of the most exciting eras of human history. Everyone is converging to experiment on new ways for our world to progress sustainably.

My name is Natalia Tsuyama, I am in my mid twenties and I am an expert in public policies.
I’ve been a Climate activist since 2019, when I won the startup weekend sustainable revolution BH with a technology that allowed me to calculate and offset the carbon footprint of transport applications.
Since then, I have been working with civil society organizations to bring climate education and awareness to Brazilian youth.
In 2020 I founded Sustentabilize-se a sustainable digital community in Brazil. We create awareness about the 3 pillars of sustainability through educational programs, curation of materials and event production.
In the same year I organized one of the biggest events against global climate change – TEDxSavassi Countdown.
And also I was selected among 5000 candidates to be one of the 500 people trained by United People Global, an organization from Geneva, to be an SDG Leader.
