How do we engage people in sustainable lifestyles and accelerate action on climate?

OneEarth Living is a member of Shift 1.5, a community of practice that aims to help individuals and organizations accelerate the adoption of a sustainable “good life” in their country, region or city. Shift 1.5 offers lessons learned, practical experience and tools.

Members of the Shift 1.5 community participate in updating and iterating the Shift 1.5 Method book, a kit of different methods that introduce the Shift 1.5 approach to sustainable lifestyles. This method book was developed by the Sustainable Lifestyles team at Sitra. The method book consists of several change making tools and methods. It describes the main principles and philosophy behind the approach and works as a guidebook in the journey towards inspiring and enabling people to live more sustainable everyday lives. One example of the content is the 1.5 degree lifestyles report created together with Hot or Cool institute and Aalto University.

By following the structure of the kit, local groups find examples of how to put together a coherent, independent “sustainable everyday life” project anywhere in the world. They can adapt these methods for their local context.

OneEarth Living and the Share Reuse Repair Initiative are adapting a number of methods to Canada including the Motivations study and their SHIFTing Consumer Behaviour program.
