How do we expand and share our knowledge on sustainable production and consumption?
The mission of the Global Research Forum on Sustainable Production and Consumption (GRF-SPC) is to strengthen the community of researchers and practitioners engaged in research on the worldwide transition to sustainable production and consumption systems. OneEarth Living was one of the organizations that launched this network in June 2012 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in the lead-up to the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development.
GRF-SPC strives to develop and strengthen methods of fundamental and applied research to achieve a deeper understanding of the possibilities and barriers to systemic change. Its ultimate goal is to enhance the development and adoption of production and consumption policies, practices and systems that meet basic needs – especially of the poor and vulnerable – and provide prosperity, while conserving natural resources and protecting the environment. GRF-SPC plays a key role in providing evidence and knowledge for international and United Nations discussions.
GRF-SPC has more than 150 members from over 20 countries, with expertise in fields spanning the natural and social sciences, economics, education, engineering and technology. The network builds on a 20-plus year research tradition on sustainable production and consumption by numerous researchers and institutes around the world, and on many successful attempts to apply research findings in policy, civil society and business. GRF-SPC’s diverse membership allows it to leverage multiple stakeholders and experts to contribute to the growing body of knowledge on sustainable production and consumption.
