Empowering C40 Cities to Drive Sustainable Urban Consumption Change

OneEarth Living, Hot or Cool and the BCIT Centre for Ecocities are working with C40 Cities to develop a Guide for climate action on urban consumption.

C40 is a network of mayors from 96 cities representing 700 million residents. From Vancouver to Jakarta, Lagos to Oslo, this Playbook will support cities taking climate action on consumption, centring equity and transformative change. Together, we’ll equip city staff and leaders in C40 cities taking action to reduce GHG emissions from everyday urban activities.

Consumption is a huge area of opportunity for cities to reduce their emissions. Climate scientists in the IPCC assessed the potential of demand-side measures at 40-70% reductions by 2050, with the right socio-cultural factors, policies, technologies and infrastructure in place. The commitment of 96 cities to C40’s leadership standards demonstrates municipal resolve to deliver the urgent action needed to tackle the climate crisis.
